Welcome to Herndon-Reston Youth Field Hockey!

Herndon Reston Field Hockey Programs

Fall League

Fall is the primary season for field hockey in the United States. We have Saturday games in September and October with two practices a week. We have divisions for grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. Younger players are welcome to play with our partner Great Falls Lacrosse and Field Hockey. Registration opens in June.

Late Winter Program

Outdoor pick-up, small games, umpire and coach training in February.

Spring Season

We have a short spring season with games on Saturdays during April and May. Practice one night a week. Registration opens in February / March.

Summer

Pick-up games and light workouts in preparation for high school play.  Also, umpire and coach training.

Parent Engagement

The success of all players depends of significant parent participation – especially for our youngest athletes. Parent engagement in all aspects of our program is crucial for the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of all players.

Registration is now open for Spring Field Hockey for Elementary,

Registration is now open for the Herndon Reston Youth Field Hockey (HRYFH) spring season!

The season will begin on April 5 with games on Saturday (and possibly Sunday) evenings in April and May.  Practices are optional and limited as HRYFH considers the spring as a game-only season as many participants play other sports.  Practice days are TBD.

Grades 4/6 and 7/9

Players in the 4th through 6th grades, and 7th through 9th grades will play 7 v 7 format with games at either Herndon High School or Nike Field in Great Falls.

The cost is $110. We provide a reversible game jersey and players should have their own shin and mouthguards.

Again, practices are limited due to player availability and reduced field space.  However, we will make sure our new players have the opportunity to learn basic skills and fundamentals.

Please note:  Ninth-grade players that sign up for the 7 v 7 games can participate in the Sunday High School Recreational Play at no additional cost.

Sunday High School Recreational Play

This season we are introducing recreational play for high school athletes. These will be non-coached, non-officiated pickup-style sessions, beginning on March 28. The tentative time is 6 pm, although that time may be pushed back if we need to schedule youth games. These sessions will be at Herndon HS or Nike field.

The cost for the High School Recreational Play season is $50.  HS players need to provide their own reversible jersey, sticks, shin guards, and mouthguards.

Scholarships are available for all players.
